Upgrade Instructions (AM Survey/Planner)

 All upgrades should be performed as a complete uninstall/reinstall of the application.

Your NetAlly support contract must be current in order to download the latest build of software and the license. The software upgrade installation will require downloading a new license file, and we recommend backing up any saved project files/folders , custom antenna patterns, ACL, etc. prior to performing an upgrade.

AirMagnet Survey Uninstall/Reinstall:

  1. Back up existing Survey project folders, custom antenna pattern files, ACL, etc.
    1. Custom Antenna patterns:  C:\Program Files (x86)\AirMagnet Inc\AirMagnet Surveyor\Antenna (.ant, .bmp)
    2. Custom Reports: C:\AirMagnet\Surveyor\Reports\CustomReport 
    3. ACL: C:\AirMagnet\Access (Surveyor.mdb)
    4. Alias Names:   (APAlias.txt)
    5. Custom Walls/Attenuation Areas: C:\Program Files (x86)\AirMagnet Inc\AirMagnet Surveyor (WallList.txt, AreaList.txt)
  2. Make note of your current license number, serial key, and whether the license is tied to the MAC address of the PC or the MAC address of the supported WiFi Adapter.
  3. In Control Panel > Programs and Features, remove AirMagnet Surveyor (Do not retain any license files).
  4. Delete these directories after backing them upC:\AirMagnet Inc AND C:\Program Files\AirMagnet Inc\AirMagnet Surveyor.
  5. Reboot the PC.
  6. Log into your My AirMagnet account and download the installation file (save locally).
  7. Make sure you have loaded the driver for your supported WiFi adapter and OS from the Documents/Drivers section of the My AirMagnet login section.
  8. Run the installation file, extracting to a local directory.
  9. Run the software installation, accept the license agreement and complete the installation; click Finish, then try launching the program. Since no license will be found, you will be prompted to download the license.
  10. Register the license to the MAC address of the PC or supported WiFi adapter (see above) and have it download the license from the website or login to your My AirMagnet account and download it manually and save to the C:\Program Files\AirMagnet Inc\AirMagnet Surveyor directory.
  11. Launch the software.


Upgrade/Reinstall Instructions for patch builds of AirMagnet Survey:

  1. Download the new build from the Registered Products section of the AirMagnet website under your My AirMagnet login and save it to a local directory.
  2. Run the executable and extract to a local directory.
  3. Select AirMagnet Survey Installation.
  4. Choose Repair/Update, click Next.
  5. The Installer presents the License Agreement, click Next to accept.
  6. Wait for the installation to complete. Click Finish.
  7. Exit out of the Installer.
  8. Use the Survey Update Tool to download the license (either step 9 or step 10).
  9. Start> All Programs>AirMagnet, Survey, Survey Update Tool and download the license file from My AirMagnet account and select the option to tie the license to the MAC address of the PC or to the supported WiFi Adapter.
  10. Download the license manually from the License column in your My AirMagnet login under Registered Products for AirMagnet Survey and save the file to the C:\Program Files\AirMagnet Inc\AirMagnet Surveyor directory.
  11. Launch the software to test the upgrade.

If the upgrade is not successful, then try a clean uninstall/reinstall. 

New Installation? This is the order in which the software should be registered and installed:

  1. Register the serial number and download the software from the AirMagnet website (login required).
  2. Download and install the supported WiFi adapter driver from the Documents/Drivers section of the AirMagnet website.
  3. Install the AirMagnet Survey software and tie the license to the MAC address of either the supported WiFi adapter or the MAC address of the PC (your choice).
  4. Download and install the license file automatically from the AirMagnet website or manually, and save it to the directory C:\Program Files\AirMagnet Inc\AirMagnet Surveyor


Does your license begin with A4029-xxxxxxxx?

If so, this is a limited license granted to OptiView XG customers. This license is only supported running on OptiView XG which is a NETSCOUT product.  This limited license type will not install on a laptop with another type of WiFi adapter.  You will need to buy a standalone license for AirMagnet Survey Pro through an authorized Sales channel in order to install the software on a laptop along with a supported WiFi adapter.  Please contact NETSCOUT technical support (www.netscout.com) for assistance with the OptiView XG.
